Weatherization:
Weatherization is the practice of protecting a building and its interior from the elements; particularly from sunlight, precipitation, wind and modifying a building to reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency. Properly sealing and insulating your home can be an easy way to increase home comfort, save money on energy costs and increase the energy efficiency of your home.
Why should you weatherize? The Department of Energy says weatherization which is the process of sealing air leaks and properly insulating a home, can reduce heating bills by up to 32%, resulting in an average energy savings of $958 per year. The DOE estimates that 20-40% of the money an average AMERICAN family spends on heating and cooling their home each year is wasted through uncontrolled air leakage, insufficient insulation and failing duct work.
Is Money Flowing Out of Your Home? According to the DOE, a typical U.S. home has over ½ mile of gaps and cracks. Your hard-earned dollars flow out through those cracks around windows, doors and electrical outlets.
Common Air Infiltration Problems:
-
Drafty house
-
Rooms that are always too cold or too hot
-
Condensation on your windows and doors
-
Mold, mildew and musty odors
-
Dust
-
Pest and insect infestations
-
HIGH ENERGY BILLS
These are all indications that your house is out of balance and in need of weatherization by Star Spray Foam Insulation
Weatherization is a Three Step Process:
-
Finding the leaks – This step involves sealing off your house from the outside air. A blower door test will find out exactly how much conditioned air is being lost to unconditioned space and the amount of infiltration.
-
Air Sealing the leaks – Once the tests are completed and we locate all of the leaks, our crew will seal of the leaks from the outside air. This is done through a variety of techniques and with an array of products including expandable foam, caulking, weatherstripping and other specialized Star Spray Foams Systems Weatherization Products and procedures.
-
Insulating – The final step is to insulate your home to stop your conditioned air from escaping. This is done with the use of various insulation products: Spray Foam Insulation, Cellulose and dense packing wall and crawl spaces for air sealing.
After the air seal and insulation processes are complete, another blower door test will be performed to provide quantitative evidence of your savings. You will see the real savings when you see your next heating and cooling bill, GUARANTEED!
